Have Tottenham blown their chance of winning Premier League title?

It was a huge test to Tottenham Hotspur’s title credentials on Friday night – and one which they did not pass.

If Spurs had beaten West Ham, they would have moved to within one point of the leaders Chelsea but instead, they are now four points behind Antonio Conte’s men.

It is highly unlikely that they will be crowned champions at the end of the season and some betting websites have even started to pay out on Chelsea winning the title.

It was this time of the year that Spurs blew their chances of winning the title last season. Tottenham went on a bad run and ended up finishing in third place.

Mauricio Pochettino had hoped that his team had learned from last season and would be able to catch the Blues. It is a massive undertaking now for his team as they have more difficult fixtures left.

Even if Spurs won all of their remaining matches, it is unlikely that Chelsea will slip up as they have games left that they should comfortably win.

The Premier League is the strongest division in the world though, so they will need to be ready to battle in all their remaining matches or they could end up losing two on the bounce to open up the title race once again.

Tottenham face Manchester United in their next match in the Premier League which will not be an easy game for them.

Spurs are playing at White Hart Lane and have not been beaten there all season. It will be the last Premier League game at White Hart Lane so they will not want the last ever game at a ground with such history to end in a loss.

After facing Manchester United, they then go on to meet last year’s champions Leicester City and then their final fixture is against Hull City.

Chelsea will face West Brom on Friday night before their remaining two matches against Watford and relegated Sunderland at Stamford Bridge. These are all matches that the Blues should win.

It looks as though Spurs will miss out again this year but if they hold onto their star players, they should be competing for the title again next season.

One major concern, however, is that they will be playing all of their home games at Wembley stadium while their new stadium is built. They have a dreadful record their and will need to turn things around if they are going to challenge again.

They also need a suitable backup striker to Harry Kane as if he had been fit for the whole season, they would have probably won the title.

Chelsea will have the Champions League to contend with next season which will make it hard to win the title next time around. This campaign though it looks as like they have done enough to regain the Premier League title that they lost to Leicester City last year.
