Martin Keown sends message to Man United fans about Henrikh Mkhitaryan
Martin Keown believes that Henrikh Mkhitaryan is being wasted in his current position at Manchester United
Martin Keown has claimed that Jose Mourinho has not been deploying the likes of Henrikh Mkhitaryan “properly” at Manchester United this season.
The Armenia international arrived at Old Trafford from Borussia Dortmund last summer and has earned plenty of praise for his displays in recent months after initially struggling to adapt to life in England.
The 28-year-old has scored 10 goals and made one assist in all competitions this season to help Mourinho’s men reach the Europa League final.
However, Manchester United have often been criticised about their style of play this season and the Red Devils have struggled to find consistent form in the Premier League.
Mourinho’s men are set to finish outside the top four and their final hope of Champions League qualification rests on next week’s Europa League final.
And former Arsenal star Keown feels that Mkhitaryan is not being given a proper chance to show what he can do in Manchester United’s current team.
Writing in his column for the Daily Mail, Keown said: “It is not a case of United lacking the personnel. United have the players to strike fear into their opponents but they are not being used properly.
“It cannot be right that Henrikh Mkhitaryan — the player with the most assists in Germany last season — was having to chase all the way back to defend when United lost against Arsenal at the Emirates recently.
“If Mkhitaryan was at Chelsea he would be playing in Eden Hazard or Pedro’s position, not as a wing back. United paint a picture of a timid team who won’t attack you.”
