Henrikh Mkhitaryan has credited Zlatan Ibrahimovic for the assist after the playmaker won Manchester United’s goal of the season award on Thursday night.
The Armenia international won the prize for his instinctive backheeled volley in the 3-1 Boxing Day win over Sunderland at Old Trafford.
Ibrahimovic provided the assist for the goal and Mkhitaryan was quick to pay tribute to the Swedish forward for his contribution.
Mkhitaryan told Manchester United’s website: “To be honest, I was impressed as well. I just realised when I went home and watched it again.
“I couldn’t miss this great opportunity because I received a great ball from the god!”
Mkhitaryan will be hoping to help Manchester United end the Premier League season on a high when the Red Devils host Crystal Palace at Old Trafford in their final game of the campaign on Sunday.
The Red Devils will then turn their attentions towards their crunch Europa League final clash against Ajax in Stockholm next week.
Winning the Europa League is Manchester United’s last remaining hope of qualifying for next season’s Champions League, with the Red Devils currently sixth in the Premier League table.
