Insider’s response when asked whether Man United could spend £100m on 18-year-old striker
Julien Laurens believes Manchester United have the resources to sign Monaco starlet Kylian Mbappe
Manchester United are capable of spending £100m on Kylian Mbappe this summer but the striker will remain at Monaco for another season, according to Julien Laurens.
The France teenager has established himself as one of the most-exciting attacking prospects in Europe’s major leagues thanks to his eye-catching performances in the Champions League.
Mbappe scored home and away to help Monaco beat Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund in the knockout stage and take his tally to five goals in eight games.
The 18-year-old has also netted 14 times in 25 games in Ligue 1 this term to leave AS Monaco on the cusp of beating Paris Saint-Germain to the top-flight title.
According to reports in the British media, Manchester United have already failed with a £69m deal for the Monaco starlet this season.
Speaking to The Times’ Game podcast, Ligue 1 expert Luarens backed Mbappe to remain at Monaco despite admitting that Manchester United could afford to sign the teenager.
“He will stay at Monaco for another year. Man City and Man United can potentially pay the 100m euros.”
Manchester United signed Anthony Martial in a £36m deal from Monaco in 2015.
