The Liverpool legend reacts to Daniel Sturridge's goal in Sunday's win at West Ham United
Jamie Carragher praised Jurgen Klopp for bringing Daniel Sturridge into his team after the striker scored in Sunday’s 4-0 win at West Ham United.
The England international has struggled with fitness problems and a loss of form throughout the 2016-17 campaign in his second season under Klopp.
Sturridge has been linked with a summer move given his lack of first-team opportunities under the former Borussia Dortmund boss.
The 27-year-old made his sixth start of the Premier League season at the London Stadium as Liverpool looked to cement their top-four prospects.
And Sturridge managed to get on the end of Philippe Coutinho’s incisive pass to make the breakthrough in the first half.
The former Chelsea striker’s effort was his third Premier League goal of the 2016-17 season.
Speaking to Sky Sports about Sturridge’s opener in east London on Sunday afternoon, former Liverpool defender Carragher said:
“As soon as Sturridge is in that position you never think he will miss.
“That’s why you bring Sturridge into the team. He can score goals like that.”
Coutinho extended Liverpool’s lead with two second-half goals at the London Stadium.
Liverpool are four points clear of fifth-placed Arsenal ahead of their final Premier League game against Middlesbrough.
