Jamie Carragher sends transfer warning to Tottenham
The Liverpool legend is worried Tottenham could struggle in the transfer market this summer
Jamie Carragher has warned Mauricio Pochettino that Tottenham Hotspur could struggle to find signings to significantly improve his squad this summer.
The Spurs boss has led the north London side to a second-place finish in the Premier League table after securing runners-up spot ahead of their final game of the season at Hull City.
Tottenham have improved on their 2015-16 campaign after the Lilywhites finished in third place in the table and behind bitter rivals Arsenal after a disastrous end to the season.
Pochettino started his summer spending with the shrewd acquisition of Victor Wanyama in an £11m deal from Southampton.
Spurs signed Vincent Janssen in a £17m deal from Eredivisie side FC Twente before landing Moussa Sissoko in a £30m deal from Newcastle United on transfer deadline day last summer.
Both of their big-money signings have struggled to make an impact in their first seasons at White Hart Lane.
Speaking to Sky Sports about Tottenham’s potential transfer activity this summer, Carragher had a warning for Pochettino.
“It isn’t easy going forward and that was proven last summer because they spent £50-£60m without improving the starting XI,” Carragher said.
“It’s not a criticism of Mauricio Pochettino because it’s not easy, but they need someone in that position that is better than Sissoko to lift the level.”
