Jose Mourinho sends Man United challenge to Paul Pogba
The Manchester United manager has challenged Paul Pogba to continue his development as the best midfielder in the world
Jose Mourinho has challenged Manchester United star Paul Pogba to continue his development as the best midfielder in the world.
The Red Devils signed France international Pogba in an £89m deal from Serie A giants Juventus in the 2016 summer transfer window.
Pogba has made a slow start to his Manchester United career after scoring four goals and making three assists in 29 appearances in the Premier League.
The midfielder has been criticised for some muted performances in Manchester United’s biggest games of the 2016-17 season.
Mourinho, though, is adamant that Pogba is still the best all-round midfielder in the world despite criticism of the 23-year-old’s performances this term.
Speaking to Sky Sports about his world-record signing, Mourinho urged Pogba to continue his development as one of the best midfielders in the world.
“He had very good matches. The best in the world is almost always the goalscorer, I feel a bit unfairly, so to say (Pogba) is the best in the world is difficult to say,” Mourinho said.
“To be the best midfield player, I think so. I don’t see another one with everything he has. He has to develop, of course he has to.”
Pogba helped Manchester United to win the EFL Cup at Wembley back in February thanks to a 3-2 win against Southampton.
The Red Devils will host Eredivisie giants Ajax in the Europa League final next Wednesday.
