Danny Welbeck: I’m always talking with Arsenal star about linking up, it’s nice
The Arsenal striker talks up his blossoming partnership with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
Danny Welbeck has shed light on his partnership with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain after the pair combined for Arsenal’s second goal in a 2-0 win against Manchester United on Sunday.
The former Manchester United striker was handed a starting spot for the visit of Jose Mourinho’s side at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Switzerland international Granit Xhaka broke the deadlock in the 54th minute after the midfielder’s deflected off Ander Herrera and looped over Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea.
Arsenal doubled their lead when Oxlade-Chamberlain found Welbeck with a superb cross into the penalty area and the England striker headed past his former team-mate in the Manchester United goal.
And Welbeck, who moved to Arsenal from the Red Devils in a £16m deal from 2014, has revealed that he has been working with Oxlade-Chamberlain on their combination play.
“With Ox I’ve played with him for quite a number of years now. We’re always talking on and off the pitch about getting that link up going,” Welbeck told Arsenal’s website.
“So he kind of knows where I’m going to be and I know where he wants to put the ball as well, so it’s nice.”
Welbeck has scored four goals in 16 appearances in all competitions in an injury-hit season for the Arsenal striker under Arsene Wenger.
The Gunners will take on Chelsea in the FA Cup final.
