Legend explains why Arsenal can’t snub FA Cup
Alan Smith admits winning FA Cup won't cure Arsenal's problems but insists it would still be a good achievement
Arsenal don’t have the luxury of turning their nose up at a FA Cup win this season, according to Alan Smith.
The Gunners reached their third FA Cup final in four seasons last weekend thanks to a thrilling 2-1 extra-time win against Premier League rivals Manchester City.
Nacho Monreal scored an unlikely goal to cancel out Sergio Aguero’s opener in the last-four clash before Chile international Alexis Sanchez netted a winner in extra time at Wembley.
Arsenal still face the daunting prospect of facing Premier League leaders Chelsea in the FA Cup final as Wenger looks to win the competition for a record seventh time.
The Gunners are currently in sixth place in what has been a disappointing Premier League campaign, coupled with a humiliating Champions League exit at the hands of Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.
Smith, though, doesn’t believe Arsenal are in a position to snub winning the FA Cup, insisting it would represent a success for Wenger’s men.
“Winning the FA Cup semi-final doesn’t cure all the problems at Arsenal, it’s not a magic wand because they’ve got to a couple of finals in the FA Cup recently but it hasn’t really progressed them in the league,” Smith told Sky Sports News HQ.
“You can’t turn your nose up at beating Man City and reaching another final.”
