Arsene Wenger has told his Arsenal players that they have “no choice” but to beat Manchester United on Sunday.

The Gunners are preparing to welcome Jose Mourinho’s men to The Emirates as they look to keep their fading top-four hopes alive.

Arsenal were comprehensively beaten 2-0 by bitter local rivals Tottenham last weekend as they took another blow to their Champions League qualification hopes.

Manchester United head into the game fresh from their 1-0 win over Celta Vigo in the Europa League on Thursday night and it remains to be seen whether Mourinho will field a weakened team as he ponders prioritising their European semi-final.

However, Wenger has insisted that nothing else matters for his Arsenal team other than claiming the three points on Sunday afternoon.

Speaking at his pre-match news conference on Thursday morning, Wenger said: “It is a big game.

“Of course every big game boosts your confidence, but for us more than focusing on the fact it is Manchester United, a big club and a big rivalry over the years, what is important is to have the chance to achieve our target.

“We have no choice, we have to beat them.”

Arsenal are currently sixth in the table but could still end the season with a trophy when they take on Chelsea in the FA Cup final at Wembley later this month.
