Martin Keown predicts where Arsenal, Liverpool will finish
The former Arsenal defender pours cold water on talk of Arsene Wenger's side overhauling Liverpool in top-four race
Martin Keown doesn’t believe Liverpool will surrender their place in the top four to Arsenal.
The Reds played out a goalless draw with Southampton at Anfield on Sunday afternoon as Jurgen Klopp’s side failed to cement their position in the table.
Arsenal were 10 points behind Liverpool at the weekend before Arsene Wenger’s side were 2-0 winners against Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners made it back-to-back victories on Wednesday night thanks to a 2-0 victory over Southampton at St Mary’s thanks to goals from Alexis Sanchez and Olivier Giroud.
Arsenal have still played one game less than Liverpool and can move to within a point of Jurgen Klopp’s men should the north London side win their game in hand.
Keown, though, doesn’t expect Liverpool to fall out of the top four despite Arsenal’s recent upturn in fortunes over the past week.
“I think Arsenal have too much to do. They have to win all their remaining games and even then it is out of their hands,” Keown told the Daily Mail.
“Arsenal are being a nuisance for Liverpool but they have Stoke up next who will not be easy. There will be no gimmes from Mark Hughes!
“Liverpool slipping up has certainly opened the door to Arsenal — but I would sooner be in Jurgen Klopp’s position with the points on the board.”
Arsenal will take on Premier League leaders Chelsea in the FA Cup final at Wembley at the end of May.
