Andy Hinchcliffe believes that Mesut Ozil is likely to be waiting to see if Arsenal qualify for the Champions League before making a decision about his future.

The 28-year-old’s situation at The Emirates has been a relentless source of speculation in recent weeks after both he and Alexis Sanchez entered into the final 14 months of their contracts at the north London club.

Ozil has recently said that he is planning to resume talks with Arsenal about a new contract in the summer as he ponders whether to extend his deal beyond 2018.

However, with Arsenal currently fifth in the Premier League and facing an uphill struggle to qualify for next season’s Champions League, Hinchcliffe feels that Ozil may be waiting to see how the campaign pans out before making a decision.

Speaking on Sky Sports News HQ on Wednesday, Hinchcliffe said: “It seems as though he [Ozil] is treading water, waiting to see what happens.

“It could be a question of money or Arsene Wenger staying or top four football. It could be a combination of everything.”
