Paul Merson is fully expecting to see Arsene Wenger stay at Arsenal beyond the summer.
The Frenchman’s situation has been a relentless source of speculation in recent months as he approaches the final few weeks of his contract at The Emirates.
Wenger has remained typically coy whenever quizzed about his situation beyond the summer and it remains to be seen whether he will still be in charge at Arsenal next season.
However, former Arsenal star Merson is certain that Wenger will still be in charge at The Emirates at the start of the 2017-18 campaign.
Speaking on Sky Sports News HQ, Merson said: “They’ve been a million miles off this season.
“I think Wenger will be there next season, I’m pretty sure of that.
“If they get in the top four and win the FA Cup – or even just get in the top four – the way it’s gone over the last three or four months, that would be a feat and a half.
“But it only covers over the cracks – things have to change.”
Arsenal will look to end the season with a trophy when the Gunners take on Chelsea in the FA Cup final at Wembley at the end of the month.
The north London side, who have not won the title since 2004, finished second and without a trophy last season.
