Lee Dixon: This Arsenal starlet is a big prospect, he’s really grounded
The former Arsenal defender talks up the potential of promising Gunners centre-half Rob Holding
Lee Dixon is backing Rob Holding to blossom into an important Arsenal player.
Arsenal brought in the Bolton Wanderers defender in a deal last summer, but Holding has found his first-team opportunities limited under Arsene Wenger this term.
The 21-year-old has been a regular fixture in Wenger’s first-team in recent weeks after the Arsenal manager opted to switch to a three-man defence following a poor run in March and April.
Holding was part of the Arsenal side that were 2-1 winners against Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley last month.
Holding started alongside Laurent Koscielny and Nacho Monreal in the centre of defence against Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.
Former Arsenal defender Dixon was impressed with Holding’s contribution as the Gunners eased to a 2-0 win against bitter rivals Manchester United.
“He’s confirmed what a good player he’s going to be. He just needs to mature into that role.,” Dixon told NBCSN.
“He is covering well. He is a really nice lad as well. He is really grounded. He is a big prospect for Arsenal in an area where they’ve struggled over the years in recent years.”
Arsenal are in sixth place in the Premier League table and six points behind fourth-placed Manchester City.
The Gunners will take on Premier League leaders Chelsea in the FA Cup final later this month.
