Insider reveals whether Arsenal star will move to Atletico Madrid
Guillem Balague discusses whether Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez will move to Atletico Madrid at the end of the season
Guillem Balague doesn’t believe Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez will move to Atletico Madrid in the summer transfer window.
Sanchez’s future has been a source of speculation throughout the 2016-17 season after failing to agree a contract extension with Arsenal.
The 28-year-old centre-forward is reported to be a target for Premier League leaders Chelsea at the end of the 2016-17 campaign.
The Chile international has been heavily linked with a move to Champions League semi-finalists Atletico Madrid – too.
Los Rojiblancos are facing a battle to keep hold of their leading striker Antoine Griezmann amid talk of a move to Manchester United in the summer.
Asked during a question and answer session with Sky Sports News HQ, La Liga expert Balague discussed the possibility of Sanchez moving to Atletico Madrid.
“Atletico Madrid have always wanted Alexis, but they may not be able to sign him this summer,” Balague said.
“Despite being in the press, I haven’t heard anything about [Jamie] Vardy from the club directly.
“Alexis is a player they would definitely like, but the problem is that they are still appealing their transfer ban.
“I don’t think they will be able to afford Alexis, which could see Alexandre Lacazette emerge as a target.
“In an ideal world, if the ban is lifted, they would like to sign both.”
Sanchez has scored 20 times and made nine assists in 35 appearances in the Premier League this season.
Arsenal are facing the real possibility of missing out on a top-four finish and a place in the Champions League next term.
