Arsene Wenger says he would like Arsenal striker Lucas Perez to remain at The Emirates beyond the summer transfer window.

The uncapped Spanish forward has struggled to tie down a regular starting spot in the Arsenal team in his first campaign in English football.

Perez moved to Arsenal in a reported £17m deal from La Liga side Deportivo La Coruna in the 2016 summer transfer window.

Remarkably, the 28-year-old has only started two Premier League games in the current campaign despite Arsenal’s well-documented struggles.

Perez has scored seven goals and has made two assists in 21 appearances in all competitions for the north London side in the 2016-17 season.

The Spanish star has been linked with a return to La Liga in the summer transfer window following a disappointing first campaign.

Speaking to his pre-match media conference about Perez’s future at the FA Cup finalists beyond the summer, Wenger said:

“I would love to. We have to sit down together and see if he has a reasonable chance to play next season or not.”
