Dietmar Hamann sends warning to Arsene Wenger about Arsenal signings
The former Liverpool midfielder warns Arsenal that missing out on Champions League football could prove costly
Dietmar Hamann has warned Arsene Wenger that Arsenal may have to pay over the odds to sign top players in the summer if the Gunners fail to finish in the top four.
The Gunners are facing an uphill challenge to catch Liverpool and Manchester City in the race to secure a place in next season’s Champions League competition.
Arsenal haven’t missed out on Europe’s premier club competition under Wenger but their dismal form in the second half of the season has left the Gunners off the pace.
However, the north London side boosted their top-four hopes with a 2-0 win against Manchester United at The Emirates on Sunday afternoon thanks to goals from Granit Xhaka and Danny Welbeck.
Arsenal have already been linked with top players such as Monaco starlet Kylian Mbappe and Torino forward Andrea Belotti in the summer.
Former Liverpool and Newcastle midfielder Hamann has warned Wenger that missing out on the Champions League could prove costly.
“Arsenal’s future plans won’t be helped by not making it into the Champions League places, they’ve never spent massively and without a spot in Europe’s premier competition, that’s another £20 or £30 million in revenue gone,” Hamann told Paddy Power’s blog.
They’ll be forced to pay way over the odds just to attract the bigger players if they’ve no Champions League football.”
