Pundit: This Arsenal signing would convince Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez to stay
The Arsenal legend says it would be a surprise to see Arsene Wenger sign Kylian Mbappe in an £85m deal
Ian Wright believes Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez would stay at Arsenal if Kylian Mbappe moved to The Emirates this summer.
Arsenal have been linked with a sensational £85m swoop to sign the AS Monaco teenager in the summer transfer window.
Mbappe has quickly established himself as one of the most-exciting attacking talents in Europe thanks to his Champions League performances.
The 18-year-old has scored five goals in eight games in the Champions League, while the striker has netted 14 times in 25 appearances in Ligue 1 side.
Ozil and Sanchez are both facing uncertain futures at the north London club as the duo failed to negotiate contract extensions with Arsenal earlier this term.
Arsene Wenger’s current deal is set to expire at the end of the 2016-17 season and the Arsenal manager hasn’t shed light on his future plans.
Speaking to BBC’s 606 podcast about speculation suggesting Arsenal could sign Mbappe this summer, Arsenal legend Wright said:
“I’m reading Arsenal will sign Mbappe in £85m deal. That will be a massive shock to everyone if it happens.
“Maybe it’s just to placate the Arsenal fans. He’s the type of signing that needs to happen to keep Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.”
Arsenal will take on Premier League leaders Chelsea in the FA Cup final at Wembley later this month.
