Manager: What has really impressed me about Chelsea under Antonio Conte
Alan Pardew hails Chelsea as the best-conditioned team in the Premier League, with the exception of Tottenham Hotspur
Alan Pardew has hailed Chelsea as the best-conditioned Premier League team under Antonio Conte – with the exception of Tottenham Hotspur.
The former Juventus manager took over the reins at the west London club at the end of the 2015-16 season after a disappointing tenth-place finish for the Blues.
Conte signed five players in the summer transfer window, including Marcos Alonso, N’Golo Kante and David Luiz who have all played a key role in their title bid.
Chelsea made the switch to a 3-4-3 formation after the Blues suffered consecutive Premier League losses to Arsenal and Liverpool back in September.
The west London side have only lost three times in 29 Premier League outings since that tactical switch as Chelsea edge closer to a second title in three seasons.
Former Crystal Palace and Newcastle United manager Pardew has been impressed with Chelsea’s fitness levels throughout the 2016-17 campaign.
“You have to take your hat off to Conte. Chelsea’s fitness and the delivery of the players each week has been maximised,” Pardew told Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.
“They’re a brilliantly conditioned team. That’s the difference between some of the top teams and Chelsea. Not Tottenham, though.”
Chelsea are sitting four points clear of second-placed Tottenham Hotspur in the title race this term.
