Gary Neville sends ‘brilliant’ message to Chelsea fans about Antonio Conte
The Manchester United legend credits Chelsea manager Antonio Conte with an amazing achievement in his first season at Stamford Bridge
Gary Neville has praised Antonio Conte for doing a “brilliant job” in his first season at Chelsea.
The Blues manager took over the reins at the west London club back at the end of the 2015-16 season after Chelsea finished in tenth place under interim boss Guus Hiddink.
Conte signed five players in the 2016 summer transfer window in an attempt to give the Chelsea squad a much-needed facelift.
Of his acquisitions, Marcos Alonso, N’Golo Kante and David Luiz have all impressed with their consistent performances throughout their Premier League campaign.
Chelsea are now one win away from being crowned Premier League champions after Conte’s side moved seven points clear of second-placed Tottenham Hotspur thanks to a 3-0 win against Middlesbrough on Monday night.
Speaking about Conte’s impact at Stamford Bridge ahead of Chelsea’s clash against West Brom on Friday night, Neville said:
“He has done a brilliant job. It’s a wonderful achievement.
“We thought they might have a good season. We thought they’d do better than last year. But we didn’t think they’d do what they’ve done.
“They’ve looked like a champion team for six months now.”
Chelsea booked their place in the FA Cup final last month thanks to a thrilling 4-2 victory over Totteham at Wembley.
