Antonio Conte sends message to Chelsea fans about the Champions League
Antonio Conte says Chelsea will be targeting the Champions League next season after securing their qualification
Antonio Conte has told Chelsea fans that he will do everything he can to bring the Champions League trophy back to Stamford Bridge next season.
The Blues’ fine form in the Premier League means that Conte’s side have now secured qualification for Europe’s elite club competition.
Chelsea have enjoyed a remarkable upturn in form this season under Conte following their disastrous 10th-placed finish last term after Jose Mourinho’s sacking.
And the Italian manager says it is “normal” that the west London side will be fighting for the Champions League title next season.
Speaking at a news conference before Monday’s game with Middlesbrough, Blues boss Conte said: “We are talking about a special competition and it is normal we would want to play in it and try to fight to win it.
“I think we are building, we are starting to build in this season, and if we are able to win, it is a great achievement for us because when you start to build it is very difficult to win during that season.
“Don’t forget that we are building to try and create a good foundation to support – not only for next season but for many years – Chelsea always staying and fighting to win the Champions League.
“There is only one team who can win, but you must prepare to build a good foundation to give Chelsea the chance to fight every season to try to win the competition.”
Chelsea are looking to win a domestic double this season and will take on Arsenal in the FA Cup final at Wembley later this month.
The Blues are close to winning the Premier League title in Conte’s first campaign in charge at Stamford Bridge.
