Pundit: What has really impressed me about Chelsea manager Antonio Conte
Matt Le Tissier praises Antonio Conte for getting the best out of Chelsea players such as Cesar Azpilicueta and Victor Moses
Matt Le Tissier admits he has been impressed with Antonio Conte’s ability to get the best out of his Chelsea players in the Premier League this season.
The Chelsea boss took over the reins at Stamford Bridge at the end of the 2015-16 season after Guus Hiddink led the west London side to a tenth-place finish.
Conte signed five players in the 2016 summer transfer window in an attempt to overhaul the Chelsea squad following a disastrous defence of their title last term.
While summer arrivals Marcos Alonso, N’Golo Kante and David Luiz have all excelled in the Chelsea team, Conte has also managed to get top-class performances from the likes of Cesar Azpilicueta and Victor Moses.
Diego Costa and Eden Hazard have also rediscovered their mercurial form under Conte after the Chelsea duo were heavily criticised for their poor performances in the 2015-16 campaign.
Southampton legend Le Tissier believes one of Conte’s best attributes is his ability to get top performances from the members of his Chelsea squad.
“He’s set the team out in a way which gets the best out of his players,” Le Tissier told Sky Sports.
“He’s taken a look at what their best attributes are, who can do a job. Who would have thought Moses would have done a job at right wing-back?
“Having watched him through his career, it’s not something you would have labelled him with. He’s managed to do that. Azpilicueta has always been a full-back but he’s slotted into that position perfectly.
“He understands the position well. He has got a great tune out of players and also getting players re-focused.
“After last season’s effort from Costa and Hazard, to get them to let them come back to how they were two seasons ago, that’s another great feather in his bow.”
