Arsene Wenger sends warning message to Chelsea fans
Arsene Wenger warns Chelsea that they will struggle to defend their title with a return to the Champions League
Arsene Wenger has warned Chelsea that the Blues will struggle to defend their Premier League title next season because of their return to the Champions League.
The west London side were crowned as Premier League champions for the second time in three seasons on Friday night as Antonio Conte steered his side to the title in his first campaign in charge.
Chelsea benefitted from the luxury of not having any European football this season following their 10th-placed finish last term, allowing them to focus their efforts purely on domestic affairs.
The Blues will make a return to the Champions League for next season and Arsenal manager Wenger feels that the west London side will not have it so easy next term.
Wenger is quoted as saying by the Daily Express: “In the last two seasons the team that won the league hasn’t played in Europe.
“I take advantage to congratulate Chelsea on what they’ve done but you see as well when they play in Europe it’ll be a different story.
“I feel that in Spain, Real Madrid can win games by playing at a lower percentage of the maximum. Bayern is similar – they dominate the German championship.”
Wenger’s Arsenal side will take on Chelsea in the FA Cup final at Wembley at the end of the month as the Gunners look to end the season with a trophy.
