Former Chelsea coach sends warning about Cesc Fabregas
Ray Wilkins warns that Chelsea cannot afford to lose Cesc Fabregas in the summer transfer window
Ray Wilkins has warned Chelsea that they cannot afford to let Cesc Fabregas leave in the summer transfer window.
The Spain international has been a consistent performer for Chelsea this season despite his lack of playing time under new manager Antonio Conte.
The midfielder, who turned 30 last week, has only started 10 Premier League games this season but has earned plenty of praise for his performances whenever called upon.
His lack of playing time this season has caused his future to be a source of speculation in recent weeks as the summer transfer window draws nearer.
However, former Chelsea coach Wilkins believes that the west London club cannot afford to lose Fabregas this summer, with a return to the Champions League on the horizon.
Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ on Thursday morning, Wilkins said: “It’s not a money issue – he just wants to play.
“He will get that opportunity next year, I just hope he has the patience.
“For Chelsea to progress to the latter stages of competitions next year, they’re going to need the guile and craft I feel only he possesses at Chelsea. You can’t let him go.”
Fabregas will be hoping to feature for Chelsea when the Blues host Middlesbrough in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge on Monday night.
