Cesc Fabregas sends ‘proud’ message to Chelsea fans about his situation
Cesc Fabregas admits it has not been easy for him at Chelsea this season but says he is pleased with his contribution
Cesc Fabregas has admitted that it has not been an easy season for him but says he is “proud” of his contribution to Chelsea’s Premier League title charge.
The 30-year-old produced a brilliant display for Antonio Conte’s men on Monday night as he helped the west London club take a big step towards winning the Premier League with a 3-0 win over Middlesbrough at Stamford Bridge.
Fabregas has found his first-team opportunities at Chelsea to be restricted under Conte this season and his start on Monday was only his 11th of the season in the Premier League.
The former Arsenal captain repaid his manager’s faith by being involved in all three of Chelsea’s goals against Boro.
And the midfielder, who was named man of the match for his sparkling display, lifted the lid on how he felt about his season as a whole after the game.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Fabregas said: “It’s been a different year for me.
“I’m used to playing week in, week out in every club I’ve been at through my career but I feel like I’ve matured a lot.
“It’s not been easy, what’s happened to me this year. Many people told me I’m not the type of player for Antonio and I should leave… things like that. But I like big challenges.
“Obviously I haven’t played every single game but in the last 20 games I’ve played in every one.
“I feel the quality of my minutes whenever I’ve been on the pitch has been fantastic. My contribution is maybe even bigger than other seasons.
“I have to have patience and accept that sometimes these things happen. Play for the team, play for the club and hopefully I’m going to win another title and play another final.
“I’m proud of what I’ve done and proud of the team.”
Chelsea can win the Premier League title if they beat West Brom at The Hawthorns on Friday night.
