Antonio Conte reacts to Eden Hazard’s display for Chelsea at West Brom
Antonio Conte explains that he chose to bring off Eden Hazard for Chelsea against West Brom because he looked tired
Antonio Conte admitted that Eden Hazard looked a little tired during Chelsea’s 1-0 win at West Brom in the Premier League on Friday night.
The Belgian playmaker struggled to make an impact in the game as Chelsea clinched the Premier League title at The Hawthorns.
Both Hazard and Pedro Rodriguez were substituted in the second half and Michy Batshuayi came off the bench to score the all-important goal and fire the Blues to the title.
And speaking after the game, Conte revealed that he opted to bring Hazard off because he looked fatigued.
Conte told Sky Sports: “In this moment of the game, Hazard was a bit tired and also Pedro.
“I wanted to give more energy with Michy and Willian. I think that Michy paid me a lot with this change! It’s great.”
The Italian manager will be hoping to guide his side to a domestic double this season when the Blues take on Arsenal in the FA Cup final at Wembley at the end of the month.
Conte was brought in as Jose Mourinho’s permanent successor last summer after the Blues finished 10th in the Premier League and without a trophy.
