Paul Merson sends warning to Chelsea fans about Eden Hazard
Paul Merson discusses Eden Hazard's future at Chelsea beyond the summer transfer window
Paul Merson has warned Chelsea fans that the Blues will struggle to keep Eden Hazard at Stamford Bridge if Real Madrid come calling this summer.
The Belgian playmaker has been celebrating winning his second Premier League title with the Blues after helping Chelsea clinch the top-flight crown on Friday night with a 1-0 win over West Brom at The Hawthorns.
Hazard will be hoping to help Chelsea win a domestic double this season when the Blues take on Arsenal in the FA Cup final at the end of the month.
The 26-year-old has been one of Chelsea’s top performers this season and has earned plenty of praise for his performances, scoring 15 goals and making five assists in the Premier League.
His future has been a source of uncertainty in recent weeks, with Real Madrid having long been linked with a move for the playmaker.
And former Arsenal star Merson admits that Chelsea are likely to struggle to keep Hazard at Stamford Bridge if Real Madrid decide they want to try and sign him.
Speaking on Sky Sports News HQ on Saturday morning, Merson said: “It all comes down to whether Real Madrid get up in the morning and say they want Hazard.
“As a Chelsea fan, everybody wants to play for Real Madrid and Barcelona as a footballer. That’s the pinnacle and I would be shocked if they’d be able to keep him at Stamford Bridge.”
