Gary Neville predicts where Chelsea, Tottenham will finish
The former Manchester United defender believes Chelsea will get over the line in the title race after Sunday's 3-0 win at Everton
Gary Neville believes Chelsea will look back on their 3-0 win at Everton as the decisive day in their title-winning season.
The Premier League leaders made the trip to Goodison Park looking to avoid a setback ahead of the north London derby later on Sunday afternoon.
However, Everton failed to put up much resistance to Chelsea as Antonio Conte’s side eased to a comfortable 3-0 victory over the Toffees.
Pedro Rodriguez broke the deadlock in the 66th minute with a superb long-range strike before Gary Cahill finished from close range 10 minutes later.
Cesc Fabregas and Willian came off the bench to combine to make it 3-0 before the Chelsea squad celebrated with their travelling fans after the final whistle.
Tottenham reduced Chelsea’s lead to four points with a 2-0 win against derby rivals Arsenal at White Hart Lane in Sunday’s late kick-off.
However, Neville felt that Chelsea’s 3-0 win against Everton will prove sufficient to get Conte’s men over the line in the title race with four games to go.
“This [last weekend] will be regarded as the big final hurdle. Obviously they’ve got to get over the line yet,” said Neville, speaking on his podcast.
“I’d imagine looking at the fixtures they have, I felt if something was going to happen for Tottenham, it was going to be on Sunday.
“There was no swing. I felt it could have been a real banana skin. It wasn’t.”
