Gary Neville: Chelsea won’t be able to replace this player, it’s impossible
The Manchester United legend says Chelsea will find it impossible to replace John Terry's influence in the dressing room
Gary Neville has warned Chelsea manager Antonio Conte that John Terry’s influence in the dressing room will be impossible to replace in the summer.
The 36-year-old is set to leave the Premier League champions at the end of the 2016-17 season after failing to secure regular first-team football under Conte.
Terry has won five Premier League titles, the Champions League, the Europa League and countless domestic trophies during a decorated career at the west London club.
The former England international was undoubtedly a reassuring influence in the Chelsea dressing room this season as the Blues closed in on the Premier League title.
Ex-Manchester United defender Neville believes Terry’s contribution to the dressing room will be a big miss for Conte in the 2017-18 campaign.
“You can’t replace him in the dressing room,” Neville told Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.
“It is impossible. When the younger kids come into the team, the foreign players come over… Terry understands the culture of the club.
“It’s getting tougher and tougher to find players at big clubs with the identity of the club and the spirit of the fans.”
Chelsea secured their second title in three seasons but first under Conte last Friday thanks to the Blues’ 1-0 win against West Bromwich Albion.
The Blues signed five players in the summer transfer window last term following a tenth-place finish in the 2015-16 under Guus Hiddink.
