Frank Lampard on Chelsea title win: I’m really pleased for this player
The Chelsea legend was delighted to see Michy Batshuayi score the winner for the new Premier League champions
Frank Lampard was delighted to see Michy Batshuayi score the winning goal at West Brom to seal Chelsea’s fifth Premier League title.
The Belgium international was a second-half substitute for compatriot Eden Hazard at The Hawthorns on Friday night as Chelsea struggled to make the breakthrough in the Premier League clash.
And Batshuayi managed to convert Cesar Azpilicueta’s low cross to secure the necessary three points to crown Chelsea as Premier League title winners with two games to spare.
The 23-year-old has found his first-team opportunities limited in the 2016-17 season despite being brought to Chelsea in a £33m deal from Ligue 1 side last term.
In fact, Batshuayi hasn’t even started a Premier League game in the current campaign as Diego Costa’s impressive form has kept the Belgian star on the bench.
Speaking to Sky Sports about the Belgian striker’s impact on the Premier League clash and Chelsea’s season as a whole, Blues legend Lampard said:
“I’m really pleased for the lad because it’s not easy going to a big club and being on the bench all year.
“Sometimes, you do the right things, train right and keep you head down and you get a special moment. That was a special moment for him tonight.”
Chelsea will face Arsenal in the FA Cup final at Wembley later this month.
