Gary Neville: This Chelsea star better than his Man United rival
Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville believes Thibaut Courtois has been in better form than David De Gea this term
Gary Neville says Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has been in better form than Manchester United shot stopper David De Gea.
The Blues shot stopper won his second title in three seasons at Stamford Bridge following the appointment of Antonio Conte at the end of the 2015-16 season.
Courtois struggled like the rest of his team-mates as Chelsea finished in tenth place in the Premier League last term under interim manager Guus Hiddink.
The Belgium international returned to Chelsea from a three seasons on loan at Atletico Madrid to win the top-flight crown in his first season in England.
Courtois helped Chelsea to keep the second-best defensive record in the Premier League before his number two Asmir Begovic shipped three goals in 4-3 win against Wartford on Monday night.
Speaking to Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football about why Courtouis has been better than his Manchester United rival De Gea, former defender Neville said:
“I went for Courtois. Not because I think overall he is a better player than De Gea, I just think that he has had a better season.
“Courtois and De Gea are outstanding goalkeepers. They do most things right. They are composed.”
Manchester United are in sixth place in the Premier League table despite the best efforts of De Gea to keep their top-four bid alive.
