Glenn Hoddle was barely able to contain his excitement when discussing the potential of reported Chelsea target Kylian Mbappe.

The AS Monaco striker has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League leaders in the summer transfer window, although Chelsea will reportedly face competition from Arsenal and Manchester United for the teenager’s signature.

Mbappe has become one of the hottest prospects in Ligue 1 and in Europe thanks to his electric performances in the French top flight and the Champions League in his breakthrough campaign.

The 18-year-old has scored five goals in eight Champions League games to help AS Monaco to ease past Premier League giants Manchester City and Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund.

Mbappe’s figures in Ligue 1 are even more impressive after a return of 14 goals in 25 games to help AS Monaco move to the brink of a Ligue 1 title.

Asked during BT Sport’s coverage of AS Monaco’s 2-0 loss to Juventus which of the Ligue 1 team’s players should be targeted by Premier League clubs this summer, former Chelsea boss Hoddle said: “Mbappe.”

The ex-midfielder added: “He’s 18. What’s he going to be like when he is 24?”
