Paul Merson questions whether 26-year-old star striker would suit Chelsea
The Arsenal legend isn't sure whether Antoine Griezmann would be a success at Chelsea should a move to Stamford Bridge materialise
Paul Merson admits he is unsure whether Antoine Griezmann would suit Chelsea.
The France international has scored 16 goals and has made seven assists in 34 appearances in La Liga this season.
Atletico Madrid striker Griezmann has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United at the end of the campaign.
However, Chelsea have form when it comes to poaching goal-scorers from los Rojiblancos after signing Diego Costa in a £32m deal.
The Spain centre-forward has been heavily linked with a move to sign Costa in the summer transfer window but could face competition from China.
Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ about potential Chelsea signings in the summer, former Arsenal midfielder Merson questioned whether Griezmann would fit Chelsea.
“Who do you bring in?” Merson asked. “Antoine Griezmann is a top-drawer player but will he suit the way Chelsea play?
“You need someone who is going to hold the ball up and make sure that he is still on the same wavelength as players like Pedro and Cesc Fabregas.”
Chelsea will face Arsenal in the FA Cup final at Wembley later in May.
The Blues signed five players in the summer transfer window following the appointment of Antonio Conte as their new manager in 2016.
Chelsea will return to the Champions League next season.
