Gary Neville sends warning to Chelsea about Antonio Conte
The Manchester United legend warns Chelsea that Antonio Conte could be tempted to move to Inter Milan this summer
Gary Neville has warned Chelsea that Antonio Conte could be tempted to move to Inter Milan this summer.
The Blues manager took over the reins of the west London club last summer after Conte replaced interim head coach Guus Hiddink.
The former Juventus defender signed five players in the 2016 summer transfer window to overhaul the squad that he inherited.
Conte led Chelsea to their second Premier League title in three seasons thanks to a 1-0 win against West Bromwich Albion on Friday night.
The Premier League champions have already secured their return to the Champions League next season thanks to an outstanding campaign under Conte.
However, the Chelsea boss has reportedly been the subject of a lucrative offer from Serie A side Inter Milan.
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher highlighted the ruthless winning mentality that runs throughout Chelsea ahead of the 4-3 win against Watford.
But Neville was quick to point out the ruthless streak could be to Chelsea’s detriment.
“You speak about a ruthless club but they’ve had ruthless managers. If they lose, they sack you. The managers who go there realise that,” Neville told Sky Sports.
“They win, they get paid and they move on. We have seen speculation about getting Conte’s head turned by Inter Milan. That [transfer rumour] won’t have just been dreamt up.
“It is a clinical club and they have clinical mangers. Don’t be surprised if this isn’t a long-term thing.”
