Jamie Carragher: This is why Cesc Fabregas should stay at Chelsea
The Liverpool legend believes Cesc Fabregas will have a big role to play in Chelsea's season next year
Jamie Carragher insists Cesc Fabregas will have an even bigger role to play at Chelsea next season.
The Spain international has struggled to tie down a regular starting spot under new Blues manager Antonio Conte in the 2016-17 campaign.
Fabregas was initially limited to a couple of minutes from the bench but the midfielder has gradually become an important squad member.
The former Arsenal captain has even managed to get into Conte’s starting XI on a regular basis as their title challenge reached its climax.
Fabregas was named the man of the match on Monday night after the 30-year-old made two assists in a 3-0 win against Middlesbrough at Stamford Bridge.
The ex-Barcelona playmaker has still managed to score four goals and make 10 assists in the 2016-17 season despite a lack of game time.
Speaking to Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football about Fabregas’ future at the Premier League leaders, Liverpool legend Carragher said:
“I think he could have a big role to play next season. He could have a bigger role next season.
“There’s no way Kante and Matic can play every game. There could be injuries.”
Fabregas moved to Chelsea in a £27m deal from Barcelona in 2014.
