Harry Redknapp sends massive warning to Chelsea about striker
The former Spurs boss believes Diego Costa will leave a massive hole in the Chelsea team if the striker quits this summer
Harry Redknapp has warned Antonio Conte that Diego Costa will leave a massive void in the Chelsea side if the striker quits Stamford Bridge this summer.
The Spain international has scored 20 times in 34 games in the Premier League in the 2016-17 season to help the west London side to win the top-flight crown under Conte this term.
Costa’s future has been a source of regular speculation throughout the Premier League and reportedly led to a bust-up between the striker and his manager back in January.
The 29-year-old is thought to be the subject of interest from China, while Atletico Madrid are reportedly interested in re-signing the controversial centre-forward.
Former Spurs boss Redknapp warned Conte that Costa would prove a very difficult player to replace if the Chelsea striker does quit the English capital at the end of the season.
“There’s a lot of speculation that Diego Costa will leave Stamford Bridge this summer having been offered crazy money to go to China and that will give Antonio Conte a massive hole to fill in his team,” Redknapp told the Evening Standard.
“Costa looks like a nightmare to manage at times but he is a real handful, leads the line well and his movement is great.
“He’s been a key reason why Chelsea have won the title in two of the three years he has been at the club and they will struggle to find a natural replacement because top centre-forwards are so hard to find.”
Chelsea won the Premier League title last week thanks to a 1-0 win against West Brom with two games to spare.
