Mark Lawrenson predicts where Liverpool will finish
Mark Lawrenson is tipping Liverpool to miss out on a top-four finish in the Premier League this season
Mark Lawrenson is tipping Liverpool to miss out on a top-four finish in the Premier League this season.
The Reds have not been in convincing form in recent weeks and their goalless draw against Southampton last weekend at Anfield has allowed Arsenal the chance to move to within a point of Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Liverpool must win both of their remaining games – against West Ham and Middlesbrough – to guarantee Champions League qualification for next season.
However, former Liverpool man Lawrenson has not been convinced by what he has seen from Klopp’s side so far this season and says he wouldn’t be surprised if they miss out on a top-four spot.
Writing in his column for BBC Sport, Lawrenson said: “As I have said, I think Liverpool will need to win their final two games to make the top four – but I am just not convinced they will do it.
“I don’t think they will get three points against West Ham for starters. If Liverpool do fall short, it will be because of their mentality.”
Liverpool are looking to break back into the top four in Klopp’s first full season in charge at Anfield after his appointment in October 2015.
The Reds ended up eighth and without a trophy last season.
