Jamie Carragher sends message to Jurgen Klopp: Liverpool must start this player
The Liverpool legend wants to see Adam Lallana start against Southampton on Sunday afternoon
Jamie Carragher has urged Jurgen Klopp to start Adam Lallana in Liverpool’s home clash against Southampton at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
The Reds were 1-0 winners against Watford at Vicarage Road on Monday night thanks to Emre Can’s wonder goal in the first half in the English capital.
Lallana made a long-awaited return to Premier League action against the Hornets after missing the last month or so with a groin problem.
The England star, who picked up his injury on international duty, replaced Philippe Coutinho early in the first half at Vicarage Road.
Lallana was instrumental to Liverpool securing a vital win and moving three points clear of fourth-placed Manchester City.
Liverpool legend Carragher believes it is imperative that Lallana needs to start against his former club Southampton at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
“If Coutinho has only suffered a dead leg, you’d expect him to be fit for next week,” Carragher told Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.
“Lallana has got 80 minutes under his belt. He has to go into the team. Klopp has to take one of the midfield three out. Lallana is too important.”
Lallana moved to Liverpool in a big-money deal from Southampton in the 2014 summer transfer window under Brendan Rodgers.
The England star has scored seven goals and has made seven assists in 28 games in the Premier League.
