Jamie Carragher: This is Liverpool’s best player, he gets the best out of his team-mates
The former Liverpool defender believes Adam Lallana has become the club's most-important player
Jamie Carragher believes Adam Lallana has been Liverpool’s best player in the 2016-17 season.
The England international showed signs of progress since Jurgen Klopp was appointed as Brendan Rodgers’ successor in October 2015.
Lallana continued his development under the former Borussia Dortmund manager, which is reflected in his return for the current campaign.
The former Southampton captain has scored seven goals and has made seven assists in 28 appearances in the Premier League this season.
Lallana made his long-awaited return from injury at Watford on Monday night following Philippe Coutinho’s first-half injury in the English capital.
And the England star produced an impressive performance before he was taken off with five minutes to go in Liverpool’s 1-0 win.
Speaking to Sky Sports about Lallana’s progress throughout the current campaign, former Liverpool defender Carragher said:
“This season, he could be right up there as Liverpool best player.
“He provides something that no-one else does. He links everyone together. He just seems to bring other people into play and makes other people play better.
“I said that last year, he was always almost providing an assist or a goal. He is now providing the end product.”
Lallana moved to Liverpool in a big-money deal from Southampton back in the 2014 summer transfer window.
The Reds are in third place in the Premier League table.
