Ian Wright predicts where Liverpool will finish
The Arsenal legend is backing Liverpool to stumble over the line in the race to secure a top-four finish
Ian Wright is backing Liverpool to stumble over the line in the race to secure a place in the Premier League’s top four.
The Merseyside outfit are in third place in the Premier League table and four points clear of Manchester United in fifth spot.
Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United failed to secure victories last weekend to offer Liverpool the momentum ahead of their trip to Watford.
And Jurgen Klopp’s side eased to a 1-0 win against Watford courtesy of Emre Can’s wonder goal at the Vicarage Road.
Liverpool are looking to secure a return to the Champions League after a two-season absence under Brendan Rodgers and his successor Klopp.
Speaking to the Sun Goals podcast about Liverpool’s bid to finish in the top four, former Arsenal striker Wright said:
“Liverpool have to win. They’re scraping over the line. They’ve just got to win the games at this stage.
“This is going to be tough for them. It won’t be a great game. Southampton can give them problems but I think they’ll get over the line [finish in the top four].”
Liverpool finished in eighth place in the Premier League table in their first campaign under Klopp.
The former Borussia Dortmund manager signed eight players in last summer’s transfer window to overhaul his squad.
