Jurgen Klopp sends message to Liverpool fans about top four ahead of Southampton clash
The Liverpool manager warns his players that the Reds can't afford to waste points at this stage of the 2016-17 season
Jurgen Klopp has warned Liverpool that the Reds can ill-afford to waste points in the top-four race ahead of Sunday’s clash against Southampton.
The Merseyside outfit were 1-0 winners against Watford at Vicarage Road on Monday night thanks to Emre Can’s wonder goal on the stroke of half-time.
Liverpool have won their last three Premier League games on the road thanks to wins against Stoke City, Watford and West Bromwich Albion.
However, the Reds lost 2-1 to relegation candidates Crystal Palace in their last Premier League game following Christian Benteke’s brace either side of half-time.
Liverpool are in third place in the Premier League table and four points ahead of Manchester United in fifth spot.
Speaking at his pre-match media conference ahead of Liverpool’s home clash against Southampton at Anfield on Sunday afternoon, Klopp said:
“There is no club who can waste points at this stage. We all have to fight. There is a lot to go for. We’re focused on our race.
“I like this kind of pressure. Fighting for something really special is the best pressure you can have.”
Liverpool are looking to improve on their eighth-place finish last season following Klopp’s appointment as Brendan Rodgers’ successor back in October 2015.
The Reds signed seven players in the summer transfer window last term.
