Charlie Nicholas is backing Liverpool to finish in fourth place ahead of Manchester United this season.
Jurgen Klopp’s are poised to secure a much-anticipated return to the Champions League with three games to go in the 2016-17 campaign.
Liverpool were 1-0 winners against Watford on Monday night courtesy of Emre Can’s wonder goal at Vicarage Road.
The Reds are in third place in the Premier League table and four points ahead of Manchester United, although Jose Mourinho’s side have played one game less.
Liverpool will welcome Southampton to Anfield this weekend before finishing their season with games against West Ham United and Middlesbrough.
Writing in his Sky Sports column about the battle to finish in the top four, former Arsenal legend backed Liverpool to finish ahead of Manchester United.
“I think they will stumble somewhere, but I think they will make the top four because Manchester United have too many games, and have to play Spurs and Arsenal away, and Arsenal don’t look good enough at the moment,” Nicholas said.
“I think seven points from nine for Liverpool would be enough.”
The Red Devils will make the long trip to bitter rivals Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
Manchester United finished in fifth place in the Premier League last term, while Liverpool ended up in eighth spot.
