Jamie Carragher: This Liverpool player reminded me of this Man City duo
The Liverpool legend likens Philippe Coutinho's performance to that of Man City duo Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva
Jamie Carragher likened Philippe Coutinho’s performance in a deeper role for Liverpool to Manchester City duo Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva.
The Brazil international started in a central role in the Liverpool side as Jurgen Klopp’s men looked to boost their top-four prospects.
Coutinho teed up Daniel Sturridge to make the breakthrough in the first half at West Ham with a magnificent through ball.
Liverpool doubled their lead through Coutinho when the Brazil international finished from outside area after Georginio Wijnaldum hit the crossbar.
The former Inter Milan star netted his second goal of the game with a superb solo goal before Divock Origi netted Liverpool’s fourth goal.
Carragher felt that Coutinho played in a similar role to Manchester City playmakers De Bruyne and Silva at the London Stadium.
“What a pass from Philippe Coutinho,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“You think of other players who have played deeper roles and have had outstanding seasons. You think of Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva.”
Coutinho has now scored 12 goals and has made seven assists in 30 appearances in the Premier League this season.
Liverpool are in third place and four points ahead of Arsenal in the top-four race.
