Jamie Carragher makes Liverpool prediction about Philippe Coutinho
The Liverpool legend believes Jurgen Klopp may have unearthed Philippe Coutinho's best position at West Ham
Jamie Carragher has suggested that Liverpool fans could see Philippe Coutinho in a new position next season.
The Brazil international started in a number eight role at the London Stadium on Sunday afternoon in the absence of his compatriot Roberto Firmino.
Coutinho produced one of his best performances of the 2016-17 season as the playmaker teed up Daniel Sturridge to make the breakthrough in the 35th minute in the English capital.
The Brazilian midfielder scored twice in the second half to extend Liverpool’s lead before Divock Origi finished from close range to secure a 4-0 win against the Hammers.
Coutinho has scored 12 goals and has made seven assists in 30 appearances in the Premier League in his first full season under Jurgen Klopp this term.
Former Liverpool defender Carragher reckons Coutinho might play as a no8 on a more regular basis in the 2017-18 season.
“Philippe Coutinho – we’ve seen what we might see in the future in a slightly deeper role,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“Maybe part of a midfield three not a front three. He made the difference in the game [against West Ham] with the pass.”
Liverpool are in third place in the Premier League table and four points clear of Arsenal, although the Gunners have played one game less than Klopp’s men.
