Jamie Carragher: This Liverpool star vital in top-four challenge (not Philippe Coutinho)
The former Liverpool defender believes Simon Mignolet has been one of Jurgen Klopp's best players in recent months
Jamie Carragher has singled out Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet for special praise for his performances in recent months.
The Belgium international started the season as Jurgen Klopp’s second-choice goalkeeper after Liverpool signed Loris Karius in a £4.7m deal from Mainz in the 2016 summer transfer window.
The former Manchester City shot stopper was dropped to the bench in December after Karius made an inconsistent start to his Liverpool career.
Mignolet hasn’t looked back since being restored as Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper.
The Liverpool goalkeeper has managed to keep a clean sheet in three of their last four games in the Premier League on the road to keep their top-four bid alive.
Philippe Coutinho masterminded Liverpool’s 4-0 win against West Ham United at the London Stadium in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
Former defender Carragher has been impressed with Mignolet’s composed performances in the Premier League over the past couple of months.
“His performance in away games… 12 points out of 12, he has played a huge role in that,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“He is very safe, he is very calm. He’s not creating panic in his defence, which is something I’ve been critical of him in the three or four years he’s been at the club.”
Mignolet moved to Liverpool from Sunderland in a £9m deal in the 2013 summer transfer window.
