Jamie Carragher: Liverpool really need to make top signing in this position
The Liverpool legend wants to see Jurgen Klopp sign a genuine wide player in the summer transfer window
Jamie Carragher has urged Liverpool to sign a world-class winger in the summer transfer window.
The Merseyside outfit boosted their top-four prospects with a massive 4-0 win against West Ham United on Sunday afternoon.
Daniel Sturridge broke the deadlock in the 35th minute before Philippe Coutinho netted a quick-fire double in the second half.
Belgium striker Divock Origi wrapped up three points for Liverpool with a close-range finish in the 76th minute.
Liverpool are in third place in the Premier League table and four points ahead of Arsenal in the race to secure a spot in the Champions League.
The Reds have failed to win their last three games at Anfield as Klopp’s side struggle without Senegal international Sadio Mane.
Speaking to Sky Sports about potential signings under Klopp in the summer transfer window, Carragher said:
“We talk about this new role [for Philippe Coutinho] of course. It may force Jurgen Klopp to buy a top genuine wide player.
“It is something they really lack to given them pace in the squad. It’s something they lack.”
Liverpool are looking to secure a return to the Champions League for the first time since the 2014-15 season.
The Reds signed Mane in a £34m deal from Southampton last summer.
