Jamie Carragher explains why Jurgen Klopp won’t make this Liverpool signing
The Liverpool legend doesn't expect Jurgen Klopp to sign a goalkeeper in the summer transfer window
Jamie Carragher doesn’t expect Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp to sign a new goalkeeper in the summer.
The Reds boss has been regularly linked with a move to sign a new shot stopper at the end of the 2016-17 season given the unconvincing performances of Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet in the first half of the season.
Klopp brought in Karius to take over the reins as Liverpool number one but the Germany Under-23 international struggled to assert himself which led to his demotion to second-choice goalkeeper back in December.
Liverpool have been heavily linked with a move to sign Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart in the summer after Pep Guardiola sent the England international on a season-long loan to Serie A side Torino last summer.
Mignolet, though, has been in impressive form in the second half of the 2016-17 season and has been crucial to keeping their slim top-four hopes alive.
Speaking to Sky Sports about whether Klopp will sign a new goalkeeper in the summer, Carragher said: “It looks like Jurgen Klopp won’t be looking for a goalkeeper in the summer.
“It’s down to his [Mignolet’s] form. He’s been a lot more reliable.”
