Pundit sends warning to Jurgen Klopp about Liverpool summer signings
Chris Sutton has criticised the strength of Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool squad ahead of the summer transfer window
Jurgen Klopp has to recruit to prepare his Liverpool squad for the demands of Champions League football next season, according to Chris Sutton.
The Reds are sitting in third place in the Premier League table and four points ahead of Arsenal ahead of their clash against Sunderland at The Emirates.
Liverpool will secure a top-four finish if Klopp’s men manage to beat relegated Middlesbrough in their final Premier League game at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
The 18-time English champions were 4-0 winners against West Ham United on Sunday afternoon thanks to goals from Philippe Coutinho, Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi.
Liverpool have struggled in the second half of the 2016-17 season as Jurgen Klopp looked to cope with a spate of injuries, including the loss of Philippe Coutinho and Sadio Mane during the league campaign.
Speaking to BBC Radio’s 606 podcast about whether Klopp needs to make a signing in the 2016 summer transfer window, former Chelsea striker Sutton said:
“He has to recruit in the summer. The Liverpool squad isn’t strong enough.
“They have kids on the bench. If they’re in the Champions League, the squad has to be much stronger, quality wise and quantity wise.”
Liverpool signed seven players in the summer transfer window last term after Klopp led the Reds to an eighth-place finish.
The Reds have failed to win their last three Premier League games at Anfield following stalemates with Bournemouth and Southampton, plus a 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace.
