Guillem Balague: Barcelona won’t sign Liverpool star, here’s two reasons why
The La Liga expert give two reasons why Barcelona don't want to sign Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho
Guillem Balague has poured cold water on talk of Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho moving to Barcelona in the summer transfer window.
The Brazil international has been linked with a move to the Catalan giants regularly over the past couple of months following another excellent season for the Liverpool number 10.
Coutinho has scored 12 goals and has made seven assists in 30 appearances in the Premier League this season to help Liverpool challenge for a top-four finish for the first time since 2013-14.
The South American playmaker scored twice in Liverpool’s 4-0 win against West Ham United on Sunday afternoon to move Jurgen Klopp’s side four points clear of Arsenal in the chasing pack.
Liverpool sold Luis Suarez to Barcelona in a £75m deal in the 2014 summer transfer window after the lure of the La Liga giants proved too strong for the Uruguayan forward to resist.
La Liga expert Balague, though, doesn’t expect Coutinho to follow in Suarez’s footsteps and has given two reasons why Barcelona don’t want to sign the Liverpool star.
“This has turned into a weekly question. His entourage is clearly working to move him to the Nou Camp. There are different reasons why Barca will not go for him,” Balague told Sky Sports.
“One is the cost and the other is they think he’s a forward rather than a midfielder. And of course they are completely sorted in attack.
“They are looking for a different type of midfielder. Nobody doubts Coutinho’s quality but Barcelona don’t have the money to be getting three or four top players for their first-choice line-up.”
