Guillem Balague sends emphatic message to Liverpool fans about Philippe Coutinho transfer
The La Liga expert rules out Philippe Coutinho moving to Barcelona from Liverpool in the summer transfer window
Guillem Balague has reiterated that Barcelona don’t want to sign Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho in the summer.
The Brazil international scored 10 goals and made six assists in 29 appearances in the Premier League to help the Merseyside outfit challenge for a top-four finish.
Coutinho has been heavily linked with a move to La Liga giants Barcelona at the end of the 2016-17 season following four-and-a-half seasons at Anfield.
The Catalan side are no strangers to raiding Liverpool for their top players after Barcelona signed Javier Mascherano in 2010 before Luis Suarez moved to Camp Nou in 2014.
Speaking during a question and answer session on Sky Sports, the La Liga expert was asked whether Coutinho will leave Liverpool in the summer transfer window.
Balague said: “I find myself saying every week – Barcelona do not want Philippe Coutinho.
“It’s being pushed by his agent, his representatives and by his friends in the squad, like Neymar. Barcelona can see that Coutinho is a forward and they have enough forward.
“They need to spend money on a right-back, perhaps on centre-backs, and a proper midfield, not Coutinho.”
Coutinho moved to Liverpool from Serie A side Inter Milan in a £8.5m deal in the 2013 January transfer window.
The Reds are looking to secure a place in next season’s Champions League competition.
Liverpool scored 39 goals in 177 games in all competitions since his move Anfield in 2013.
